From Survival Mode to Sacred Breath: How I Regulated My Nervous System

For a long time, most people only saw my smile. They saw me performing, teaching, shining. But what they didn’t see was the chaos inside — my nervous system constantly on edge, running on stress, anxiety, and survival mode.
The “before” picture you see above wasn’t taken yesterday. It was years ago — but it represents the way I lived for far too long. My body was always braced for the next problem, my spirit weighed down by burnout and grief. It was the buildup of those years that eventually pushed me toward transformation.

My Ritual: Breathwork, Prayer, and Meditation
Three years ago, I made a change. That’s when I began a daily ritual of meditation, prayer, and breathwork. It wasn’t glamorous at first — just me, showing up in the quiet each morning, choosing to sit, breathe, and invite God’s presence. But day after day, my nervous system began to soften. The tension eased. My body learned rest again.
This ritual became more than a practice; it became my lifeline. It’s the very routine that led to Sacred Breath — the Sunday night Christian meditation and breathwork class I now share with other women.

Becoming Certified
That same year, I also became a Certified Yoga and Wellness Instructor. This step was part of my transformation too. Studying the science of breath and movement gave me tools to understand what I had been experiencing in my own body — and equipped me to guide others through their healing journeys.

Why Regulating Your Nervous System Matters
When your nervous system is dysregulated (constantly in “fight, flight, or freeze” mode), you might notice:
Racing thoughts and anxiety
Trouble sleeping
Emotional highs and lows
Feeling “stuck” or burned out
But when you regulate your nervous system through prayer, breathwork, and meditation, you can begin to experience:
More calm and clarity
Better sleep
Stronger resilience under stress
A deeper sense of peace and connection with God

An Invitation
The truth is, transformation doesn’t happen overnight. It builds over time, one breath, one prayer, one quiet moment at a time. That’s how I’ve lived for the past three years, and it has changed my life from the inside out.
🌿 If your nervous system has been in overdrive, you don’t have to carry that stress into a new week. I invite you to join me for Sacred Breath — a free Christian meditation and breathwork practice, every Sunday night at 9PM ET on Zoom.
